William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is now hiring an Experienced Excavator Operator for our Pipe crew. This is one of numerous excavator operator jobs we are currently looking to fill. This position reports to and is under the direction of foreman or superintendent. William A. Hazel, Inc., operates all over the Northern Virginia Area, along with some areas in West Virginia.  

Essential Functions 

• Knowledge of OSHA safety and trenching regulations. 
• Lifting and setting pipe and structures.  
• Experience with excavating trenches for a pipe crew.  
• Able to work around underground utilities (telephone, gas lines, etc).  
• Good sight and depth perception necessary. 
• Keep equipment in good working condition (grease, oil, water, clean tracks, etc.) 
• Experience digging trench boxes.  
• Occasionally separate dirt.  

Requirements 

• Minimum of 2 years of equipment operating experience on pipe crew. (water mains, storm or sanitation sewers) 
• Valid driver’s license required 
• Related work experience required 
• Team player

This position reports to and is under the direction of foreman or superintendent. William A. Hazel, Inc., operates all over the Northern Virginia Area. By applying to this position, you acknowledge and understand you may be required to commute to job sites.

Essential Functions

• Start engine, shift gears, and press pedals with feet to operate loader. Move levers to lower and tilt bucket and drive front end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material. Move levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drive vehicle to work site, and move levers to dump material.
• Uses pipe forks to load and unload materials – pipe, cement, block, etc.
• Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning, including the tracks in applicable weather.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Less than high school education required. Up to one year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education  experience. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

This position reports to and is under the direction of foreman or superintendent. William A. Hazel, Inc., operates all over the Northern Virginia Area. • Work grades.
• Set grade boards or laser beam.
• Assure proper line of grade.
• Has overall responsibility in the ditch.
• Assures compaction on top of pipe.
• Assures proper amount of stone under pipe.
• Must have working knowledge of safety regulations.
• Must know inspector’s requirements.
• Responsible for setting manholes on grade at the correct angles.
• As directed by competent authority.
• Includes laborer/topman duties.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Must have 2 years related experience and/or training on a pipe crew.  Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.  Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.  Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume and distance.
