As the area’s premier total site development company, it was a big night at the 2025 ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards for William A. Hazel! Not only were we proud to serve as a Door Prize Sponsor, but our team also earned two major Awards of Excellence.

The first was an Excavation/Sitework Award for our work on Stanley Martin Homes Innovation Town Center project. The second was Sitework recognition as part of the Educational (Public & Private Schools) Award which Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. received for the MS-14 Watson Mountain Middle School in Loudoun County.

We are excited to publicize that William A. Hazel, Inc. has been awarded with the Contractor of the Year Award by Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works & Environmental Services (DPWES) and the American Public Works Association (APWA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter in 2024.

The Contractor of the Year award is presented to deserving contractors as a recognition of their dedication to Public Works and strengthening the community, both in scheduled activities and in emergency situations. You can learn more about the award at the APWA website.

William A. Hazel, Inc. and our outstanding Superintendent, Paul Atherton, has won the HCCA Superintendent of the Year Award for 2024. We have proudly received this award three out of the last four years.

The award is given to highlight the quality of the projects HCCA members build, the technical difficulties they overcome, the value that these projects bring to the community once completed, and the Superintendents that make these successes possible.

Congratulations to Paul Atherton, for being an outstanding superintendent whose leadership sets the standard for safety and excellence on every job site.

We are proud to announce that William A. Hazel, Inc. has been rewarded with not one but two Outstanding Safe Work Practices Awards by the HCCA (Heavy Construction Contractor’s Association) for our work in 2024.

One of the awards is for over 1 million man hours of Asphalt Paving, Concrete Paving, & Residential Concrete, which is a testament to William A. Hazel being Northern Virginia’s premier road construction company. The other is for over 1 million man hours of Excavation, Utility Installation, Clearing & Grading.

These two prestigious awards are part of a collection of six safety awards that HCCA gives out annually which are, in the words of HCCA, “powerful testaments to the company’s commitment to safety or individual employee’s commitment to the profession or accomplishments.”

Thank you to our incredible safety team whose dedication, vigilance, and hard work make achievements like these possible. Your efforts keep our teams safe and our projects running strong.

William A. Hazel, Inc. has won HCCA’s 2024 Excellence in Infrastructure Award in the $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 category, for our work on the Innovation Town Center KJ Avenue and Town Center Phase 1 Project with Stanley Martin Homes.

This project showcases the strength of our partnership and commitment to quality and execution as Northern Virginia’s premier total site development company.

William A. Hazel, Inc. is proud to announce that we were selected by the Metro Washington and Virginia Chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) as the 2024 Sitework Subcontractor of the Year.  

Each year, ABC sends out a ballot to their Virginia and Metro Washington general contractors, who then vote for the best subcontractor of the year for each trade. William A. Hazel won the award for best subcontractor in the Excellence in Construction category.  

Our team was recognized at ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards Dinner along with other best in class companies representing the best of construction in the greater DC area in September. We are honored to have received this award, which furthers the William A. Hazel Legacy of Quality and Excellence.

William A. Hazel is proud to announce that our new Web Reporting and Telephone Hotline is now live. The purpose of this safety hotline is to provide a way for our employees and contractors to quickly and easily report any concerns they have regarding their work with us. Reports can be made either online at the web portal or by calling the telephone hotline, where they will speak with a trained agent at the Compliance Resource Center. Concerns can be reported anonymously if desired, and the web portal allows the employees to track their submitted reports to assure they get seen and resolved.
