Reports To: Shop Foreman / Fleet Maintenance Manager
William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is looking for an experienced Mecánico de maquinaria pesada to join our heavy equipment shop, responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy machinery both in the shop and in the field.
This is a mobile field service role. The mechanic will drive a service truck equipped with tools and equipment to jobsites to perform repairs on-site, minimizing equipment downtime for ongoing projects.
Funciones esenciales
- Travel to jobsites in a company-assigned service truck to diagnose and repair heavy equipment on-site (excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and similar machinery)
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, undercarriages, and electrical systems
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical failures using diagnostic software and testing equipment
- Perform welding, fabrication, and cutting repairs as needed in the field
- Maintain, stock, and organize tools and parts inventory in the service truck
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance logs accurately and promptly, including parts and labor used
- Communicate with shop foreman regarding job status, needed parts, and repair timelines
- Respond to emergency breakdown calls at jobsites, sometimes outside of normal business hours
- Follow all safety protocols when working on active jobsites, including lockout/tagout procedures
- Safely operate and road-test repaired equipment as needed
- Maintain the service truck itself in safe operating condition (fluids, tires, general upkeep)
- Coordinate with equipment operators and site supervisors to assess issues and prioritize repairs
- Other duties as assigned by shop management
Qualfications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school certification in diesel or heavy equipment technology preferred
- 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic, with field service experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, undercarriage components, and heavy equipment electrical systems
- Experience with major equipment brands (Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Case, Volvo, etc.) preferred
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL required or preferred
- Comfortable driving to and working independently at various jobsite locations
- Ability to lift 75+ lbs, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks (climbing, kneeling, working in tight spaces)
- Willingness to respond to after-hours or emergency service calls as needed
Tool Requirement
Applicants must supply their own hand tools and standard mechanic’s tool set necessary to perform heavy equipment repair and maintenance work. The company provides the service truck, major diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, and specialty/heavy tools stocked on the truck.

Salario: Hourly $30.00 to $40.00/hour
