Light Duty Truck Mechanic

Reports To: Shop Foreman / Fleet Maintenance Manager
William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is looking for an experienced Light Duty Truck Mechanic to join our light equipment shop, responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of light-duty trucks and vehicles (Ford, Chevy, and similar makes) in our fleet. This role is separate from our heavy equipment shop and focuses specifically on pickups, vans, and light-duty service trucks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, brake service, tire rotations, and fluid checks on light-duty trucks and vehicles
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on gas and diesel light-duty trucks
- Inspect and repair engines, transmissions, suspension, steering, and brake systems
- Perform diagnostics using OBD-II scan tools and manufacturer-specific diagnostic software
- Complete DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety and regulatory compliance standards
- Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair specifications
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours in a work order/fleet maintenance system
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Assist with preventive maintenance scheduling to minimize vehicle downtime
- Other duties as assigned by shop management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school certification preferred
- 2+ years of experience as a light-duty/automotive mechanic (fleet or dealership experience a plus)
- Strong knowledge of gas and diesel light-duty truck systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electrical, HVAC)
- Experience with diagnostic scan tools and computerized diagnostic equipment
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in various weather conditions, and stand/bend/kneel for extended periods
Tool Requirement
Applicants must supply their own hand tools and standard mechanic’s tool set necessary to perform light-duty truck repair and maintenance work. The shop provides major diagnostic equipment, lifts, and specialty/heavy tools.
Salary: Hourly $30.00 to $37.00/hour
