Concrete Foreman
William A. Hazel, Inc. is currently searching for a Concrete Foreman to join our team, as one of the construction jobs in DC and VA we are hiring for.
The Concrete Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating crews performing concrete work on projects, including curb and gutter, sidewalks, storm structures, and related flatwork. This role ensures quality, safety, and productivity on all assigned projects while maintaining compliance with company policies, project specifications, and OSHA standards. The Concrete Foreman is expected to lead by example, provide hands-on support, and foster a collaborative work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, direct, and coordinate daily activities of concrete crews (box, hand, and machine operations).
- Interpret and implement project plans, cut sheets, and blueprints; set grades and verify elevations using levels or lasers.
- Plan and sequence daily/weekly work, coordinating with the Superintendent to align manpower, equipment, and material needs.
- Ensure proper installation of curb and gutter, sidewalks, storm boxes, and other structures in accordance with specifications.
- Order and track delivery of concrete, aggregates, and materials; verify quality and quantity on site.
- Perform daily crew reporting, including timekeeping, production, and equipment utilization.
- Inspect finished work for compliance with grade, alignment, and quality standards.
- Train and mentor crew members on safe work practices, equipment operation, and workmanship standards.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and enforce compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and site-specific requirements.
- Coordinate mobilization and demobilization of crews, equipment, and tools.
- Operate small tools and equipment as needed and assist with hands-on tasks when required.
- Maintain and inspect assigned equipment, ensuring readiness and reporting any maintenance needs.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of concrete construction experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong knowledge of site development concrete operations (curb and gutter, sidewalks, box/structure setting, machine and hand work).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and cut sheets.
- Proficiency in setting grades, slopes, and elevations; working knowledge of slope stakes and offsets.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold crews accountable.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written); bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to calculate area, volume, and quantities.
- Commitment to safety and experience enforcing safety protocols.
- Ability to operate and maintain small tools and light equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently; occasional lifting over 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, and climb.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
- Frequent exposure to dust, noise, vibrations, and moving equipment.
