ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hand mix cement for various construction tasks.
- Patch around concrete structures using brick and block.
- Operate pipe saws, hand compactors, rollers, tamping machines, and other small equipment used on pipe crews.
- Set frames and covers to proper grade on manholes.
- Assist in pipe laying operations, including setting manholes or concrete structures and ensuring pipes are on grade.
- File ends of pipes to make them smooth and tar joints to prevent leakage.
- Adjust manholes and water valves to proper specifications.
- Move materials necessary for job completion and set up silt fences.
- Perform hand digging for utilities and use picks, shovels, brooms, and sledgehammers for various tasks.
- Finish concrete for curbs and sidewalks, including troweling uncured concrete until smooth and forming C&G.
- Flag traffic when qualified and directed by supervision.
- Clean curbs and ensure proper compaction.
- Carry and move steel forms as needed.
- Perform any additional tasks as requested by supervision to complete assigned projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must have valid drivers license and transportation.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. as needed.
- Capable of extensive walking and shovel work.
- Ability to follow directions from competent authority.
- Flexibility to perform various tasks as required to support the team.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborn particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. May work in confined spaces and sewers. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
