Safety Officer
William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is looking for a Safety Officer. The individual in this position will be responsible for ensuring that all construction activities are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This role involves regular site inspections, training staff, and implementing safety programs to minimize risks and enhance the safety culture within the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in construction safety.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards – replenish first aid kits and safety equipment.
- Investigate and prepare detailed reports and reports to Safety Vice President all accidents, incidents, and near misses, damage claims, criminal activities and personnel problems of immediate attention.
- Review and investigate all safety complaints.
- Provide safety training and education to employees, including new hire orientation, toolbox talks, and specialized safety training.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to develop site-specific safety plans and ensure their implementation.
- Maintain and update safety records, including incident reports, training logs, and safety inspection checklists.
- Maintain an organized file system for all accidents and injuries.
- Promote a positive safety culture and encourage proactive safety measures among all employees.
- Coordinate with external agencies, such as OSHA, during inspections and audits.
- Assist with Ms. Utilities that need to be called and located for field personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction safety or a similar role
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar certification preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of machine guidance equipment & software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong computation skills.
- Ability to navigate and inspect all areas of construction sites in all types of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and climbing ladders.
