Lowboy Driver
William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 50 years, is looking for a Lowboy Driver. This position reports to and is under the direction of foreman or superintendent. William A. Hazel, Inc., operates all over the Northern Virginia Area. By applying to this position, you acknowledge and understand you may be required to commute to job sites.
Essential Functions
- Qualification to drive, under both the DOT regulations and in the opinion of the company.
- Conduct Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Safety Inspections and document as required. Documentation turned into Dispatcher daily.
- Start engine, shift gears, press pedals and turn steering to operate truck.
- Drive standard transmission truck to various job sites to load and offload materials.
- Inspect and document lowboy trailer tires, lights, brakes, tarps, boards, and frame. Defects will be documented on Daily Inspection Log.
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatcher to receive instructions. Cell Phone use is only done when vehicle is parked and off the roadway.
- Maintain a daily inspection log.
- Must keep track of DOT physical card and CDL License expiration date.
- Load and Secure multiple types of heavy equipment. using chains and binders
- Equipment will meet standard legal requirements prior to leaving site; put flags, warning lights, and signage in place prior to leaving site
- Required to climb in and out of equipment using the standard three-point contact method.
- Driver must report immediately to the Dispatcher any traffic citations either in a company vehicle or his own personal vehicle.
- Driver is responsible to maintain a positive personal appearance and to maintain the overall cleanliness of his truck.
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Less than high school education required; or up to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education experience. 2 years truck driving experience with at least 1 year driving a lowboy truck. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only an occasional or no variables , and the ability to follow directions to a job site. Must have: Commercial Driver’s License: Class A; DOT Medical Card: Up to Date.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborn particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
