Business Development Manager

William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 50 years, is looking for a Business Development Manager. The individual in this position will be responsible for representing the company across the industry, developing new business opportunities, participating in the strategic planning effort, and managing relationships with public and private clients, partners, designers, industry organizations and public infrastructure agencies and other entities as the business evolves.

Essential Functions

  • Identify trends early and develop strategies to adapt the business to address them..
  • Monitor legislative developments and advise the leadership to of any related potential threats or opportunities.
  • Identify and develop relationships with clients and industry professionals to generate new business opportunities.
  • Work with VP Engineering and executive team to expand the company’s footprint and build positive top of mind awareness.
  • Identify and track future projects and assist the VP of engineering with developing and managing future pipeline output projections.
  • Strategize and coordinate participation/attendance in service line or geographically focused organizations and conferences.
  • Identify emerging markets and lead in their evaluation and entry process.
  • Attend and represent the firm at industry events and other meetings to stay abreast of market conditions, competition, and establish relationships with existing clients and prospects.
  • Provide ongoing progress updates on new business development activities and other key indicators to the Hazel leadership team and Board as needed.
  • Lead the proposal development and capture process with the estimating and pursuit teams.
  • Manage the strategic plan and participate in the annual strategic planning process.
  • Perform special assignments and research as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, civil engineering, construction management, or business or 5-15 years of experience building relationships in horizontal construction with a proven track record.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Technical skills required to create proposals and find solutions to meet client requirements, such as using software programs and machines.
  • Excellent organization skills to meet goals and set priorities.
