It's said necessity is the mother of invention and that is precisely why William A. Hazel invented the concept of “total site development”. It all stemmed from the notion that if you want something done right, do it yourself. Over the years, the company has created a legacy for doing things right because they can control all aspects of the project.
Our long list of repeat clients are a testament to the benefits of the total site development concept.
To be the premier full service sitework contractor by providing our clients exceptional value and performance, providing our employees the best possible working environment, being proper stewards of our communities, and preserving our legacy of dependability and quality.
First Choice. Right Choice. Only Choice.
We want to be the company that clients choose to build their projects. We want to be the company that employees choose to work for. We want our business partners to always feel confident that they made the right choice.
We provide our employees with the proper tools, equipment, training and education to perform their jobs effectively, so that we all return home safe and healthy at the end of each day.
We act beyond reproach in everything we do. We communicate professionally, honestly, and openly at all times.
We are focused on client satisfaction, providing exceptional value and performance above and beyond our contractual terms and competition.
We ensure all of our employees have the opportunity to provide value, achieve excellence, and grow individually and collectively. We promote a culture of diversity and inclusiveness in our workplace by treating people with dignity and respect.
We are dedicated to exceptional workmanship. We are innovative and provide the highest quality service through collaboration and creativity.
We are proper stewards in our communities and environment. We believe in preserving our legacy and making a positive impact for the future in which we will live and raise our families.
It all started with a little International TD6 bulldozer, and a couple of brothers who would do just about anything a customer needed – from clearing fence rows to digging out rocks. “We worked wherever we could get work”, recalled Mr. Hazel.
That was in the late 1950's. They got their first Caterpillar in the 1960's. As the business grew, it was time to be formally incorporated, and in 1964, William A. Hazel, Inc., was officially launched as a corporate citizen of Virginia. The work gradually evolved into the sewer and water business and the company grew from there.
We think Mr. Hazel would be thrilled to know that, in the 21st century, two (and sometimes three!) generations of employees have worked in the company he and his brother started.
Four of our six leadership team members began their careers working among the rank and file at William A. Hazel, Inc.
The Chief Operating Officer began as an Engineer.
The Vice President of Engineering began as an Engineer.
The Vice President of Field Operations began as a Concrete Finisher.
The Director of Equipment & Building Facilities began as a Field Mechanic.
We are powered by our people, and we carry Mr. Hazel's legacy of hard work, dedication, and determination into every project we do.
